You need a board, not another chat window.

You do not run a team from a chat window.

You talk in a chat window. You hide in a chat window. You lose the plot in a chat window.

Everyone who tries this for a month builds the same four screens. A board. A feed of runs. A calendar. A place to talk to one teammate. They call it a cockpit or a desk or mission control. The name is not the point. The point is you stopped pretending a sidebar could be a studio.

Watching logs is a different job. Logs tell you the pipe twitched. A board tells you the Hartley refund is waiting on you, Clerk is in payroll, Maker is done, and Watch still has vendor quotes in flight.

The board is the room

Four columns. That is the whole room.

Backlog. Created. A teammate will pick it up. The winter pricing page. The quarterly vendor sweep. You can see the pile. The pile cannot pretend it is done.

Needs you. Paused. The only column that makes the rest honest. Refunds. Weird invoices. Anything that reaches a customer. You take the tap. You do not live here. If this column is empty because everything auto-sent, you are not brave. You are lucky, until you are not.

In flight. Work they have picked up. Mail on overnight replies. Clerk on the Oct 15 run. Watch comparing quotes. Motion you did not type.

Done. Finished today. The only column a client believes.

Named teammates sit on the cards. Chief, Clerk, Mail, Maker, Scout, Watch. If a vendor shows you a chat transcript and calls it a dashboard, they showed you the talk. They did not show you the room.

Feed, calendar, chat: the other three screens

Feed of runs. Who, which tool, when. Clerk listed seven overdue invoices at 9:04. Mail read Gmail at 7:12. Receipts. You open this when something smells. You do not manage the week from here. People who manage from logs become sysadmins of their own intern.

Calendar. The clock. Weekdays 9:00 invoices. Mondays 7:00 brief. Staggered so the pipe does not stampede. If the job is not on the calendar, you are the calendar.

Chat with a teammate. Real talk, when you need it. "Bell & Rowe still hasn't paid." Subscribe to the thread when it is hot. Do not use chat as the board. Four teammates talking in one stream is a group chat, not a company.

Home, missions, mail, docs, scheduled. That is a desk. Not a prompt box with a dark theme.

DIY always converges here

You start in a notebook. Then a Notion. Then a sheet of runs. Then a bot in Slack. Then you cannot see who owns the refund. Then you build a board. Then you add a log because the board lied. Then you add a calendar because you forgot to kick the bot. Then you add a DM because the board is a terrible place to write "use the nice version."

Congratulations. You built a desk. You also spent two months building a desk.

A read-only board is how a client sees the work without seeing the keys.

Run the team from the four columns. Use the feed when a receipt is the question. Use the calendar when the question is "did it even start." Use chat when you would have walked over to a person.

What this is not

It is not a project tracker you sprinkle bots on. Trackers wait on humans. This waits on teammates, then on you.

It is not an observability product. You can buy those. They will not chase Bell & Rowe.

It is not another chat with a kanban skin. If moving a card does not change who is working, it is a poster.

It is not a ticket board you already have with a new coat. It is the desk the teammates live on.
